Crystal Girls captain Bronia Gosling is running the London Marathon to raise money for Spinal Research and her friend Jay Young who suffered a broken neck and spinal injuries after an unfortunate accident which left him paralysed from the neck down.

You can help out by donating here on Bronia's just giving page - don't forget to check the Gift Aid box!

Every year more than 800 people in the UK and Ireland are paralysed following an injury to their spinal cord. Spinal Research raises money to fund research into clinical treatments as well as vital basic science research. Thanks to such pioneering research, paralysis can now be treated and we stand on the brink of applying therapies that will restore movement and feeling and transform the lives of paralysed people.

Bronia said: "I'm hoping to raise around £2500 - £1700 of which will be going to Spinal Research which will help progress their work. The rest and anymore will go to Jay to help pay for care or anything else he needs."

"I met Jay in December 2010 when we were doing Panto together in High Wycombe. He was part of the Pirates called the Acromaniacs that do a fantastic gymnastic and stunt displays on stage during the show. Not only that, Jay was looking to get onto the stunt register and begin a very promising career in the industry. He was a fantastic gymnast and was constantly training before and in between shows to perfect his somersaults and flips.

"After the season finished he landed his 2nd professional job at Legoland and was really excited to be doing the stunt show. All was going well but when they were rehearsing one day and a trick went wrong. He broke his neck and damaged his spinal cord and was air lifted to hospital where he stayed for a good few months before being moved nearer to home.

"I went to see him, and I have to say to see a friend not even be able to itch his nose is distressing. He is now having physio and is moving into his own bungalow with 24 hour care. He is so positive about everything, even though he's the one in the wheel chair that he has to move with a special controller which he operates with his mouth. It really makes you put things into perspective!

"His family and friends have a saying for him: All Day Everyday Pray For Jay. "

Bronia has been training vigorously since December for the 26.2 mile run and hopes to be ready for the marathon which will take place on the 22nd of April.

"Training is going well. I have days where I find some runs tough but I keep Jay in mind all the time and just think 'He can't do this, so come on Bron get on with it!'. I'm at 8 miles at the moment hoping to get to 10 by the end of the week. I have new running trainers to break in to so that should be fun! I'm probably a little behind with training but once I put my mind to something there's usually no stopping me!"

FYP would like to wish Bronia all the best in her fundraising endeavours and we urge you all to give as much as you can.

FYP Podcast Extra: Kits and bits that didn't make the cut

Aaaaand we're back already! Yep, the FYP pod team had so much to talk about last week that we have uploaded an EXTRAAAAA podcast with some of the chat that was squeezed out of the last pod.

Consider this a Pod 43 A with some content that didn't make the last cut.

In it, the pod team talk about the voting for the new Palace badge, as well as talking kits (it's nearly that time of the season again) and discuss the EPPP, which is in the news again as the powers that be at UEFA decide to get involved.

As before, Eagles chairman Steve Parish joins us to add his thoughts on the matters from the boardroom at SE25 as the boys cover all the issues that they missed while away for the last six weeks.

You can stream the pod live here.

You can subscribe through iTunes here ---> http://itunes.apple.com/podcast/fyp-...st/id373306875

Don't forget to email or tweet your comments to us for the next pod.

And if you missed the last podcast it is right here!

Palace 4 Watford 0 - Martin nets twice in first win of 2012

Twice-scoring Chris Martin put Palace on the way to a fantastic 4-0 win against Watford at Selhurst Park today.

A second goal in a week from Wilfried Zaha started the route, while KG rounded it off with the fourth.

Watford started the game with the majority of the possession but looked about as dangerous going forward as a drunken Calvin Andrew (We love you really, Calv!).

But the Eagles soon found their way into the game and on the 22 minute mark Zaha netted Palace's first of the afternoon. Jermaine Easter found himself out wide to the right and a low, and dangerous cross into the box found it's way to Wilf at the far post. Having found confidence in front of goal after his spectacular effort against Bristol City, the youngster struck from close range straight into the arms of the visiting 'keeper. But when it's going your way, it's going your way and a fumble from Scott Loach saw the ball trickle into the net.

The goal seemed to animate Palace and the home side upped their game from then on. The first half continued in much the same way, with the visitors trying and failing to penetrate a steadfast Palace defence and the attacking Palace players breaking with gusto and looking very dangerous going forward.

Seven minutes before the break the on loan Martin doubled the lead - heading home Ambrose's deep cross - shortly after Watford had their best chance of the game - Craig Forsyth forcing Julian Speroni into a diving punch after a long range shot changed direction at the last second shortly beforehand.

After the break Palace continued to dominate, seemingly shrugging off the 'we can only play for 45 minutes' tag that some pundits and commentators have pegged on the Red and Blue army in recent times.

Martin again netted, losing his marker with ease before sending the 'keeper the wrong way and prodding home for his second and the Eagles' third after Easter's neat flick. Darren Ambrose provided the assist through a set piece, with the Eagles former 20-goal talisman proving he still has it.

KG, who had been fairly quiet until that point, put the game to bed after converted an Ambrose corner - in slightly scrappy style - to give Palace a four goal advantage with just under 20 minutes to play.

Three changes were made late in the game with Glenn Murray, Sean Scannell and Owen Garvan replacing Martin, Zaha and Mile Jedinak respectively.

Scannell gave a storming substitute performance and probably deserved a goal of his own for his efforts in the last quarter of an hour.

Murray came on, but failed to adapt to the pace of the game quickly enough and was disappointing.

Garvan could've made it five after receiving the ball on the edge of the area late in the game. The Irish midfielder scuffed his shot after the ball ran across his body and he was forced to take the shot on with his weaker right foot.

Lots of positives can be taken from this game, not least the confidence instilled in the squad after having given an on-form team a fair drubbing. Dangerous balls into the box seemed to be the difference at Selhurst this weekend, and we're in for an exciting end to the season if the lads can keep that up.

After the match, speaking to the Official Palace Site, Dougie Freedman affirmed the result was nothing less than we deserved.

"We've been performing fantastically well over the last three or four games and our performances have merited wins. It's pleasing to get what you deserve and we certainly got what we deserved today," said the Doog.

"Darren Ambrose's set-pieces give a fantastic delivery but I thought the movement was good as well. Throughout the game we played well, I think Watford gave it everything they've got and we had to defend very well at times and play as a unit, which we did. I felt there were parts of that game where we were outstanding in terms of our attacking display. When we attack like that we can certainly open up most defences in this division.

"We've drawn the last three matches, we refuse to get beat and our performances at Middlesbrough and Bristol City merited three points. So it's a case of sticking to what we've been doing. It was pleasing to see that the players didn't have any negative, it was pleasing to see that they keep sticking to what they do best. The wins will come and I believe that myself.

"Dean Moxey could have played today, he was fit but he's come down with sickness. He felt unwell last night but he was definitely in my plans for today's game."

Palace XI: Speroni; Clyne, McCarthy, Gardner, Parr; Jedinak (Garvan), KG; Ambrose, Martin (Murray), Zaha (Scannell); Easter.

FYP MOTM: Chris Martin

What did you think of the game? Four goals eh? Let us know! Comment below...

FYP Preview: Palace v Watford

Team News

Palace

Midweek the Eagles managed to throw away a two goal lead (as was pessimistically predicted in last Tuesday's preview) and add to the long streak of bad luck we've managed to accrue in recent seasons down at Ashton Gate. We never really expected anything less did we? The good news is that we produced a fine display for vast swathes of the game and again Wilfried Zaha was on top form to lead the attack as a creative outlet cutting in from out wide. Hopefully this is something we can build on as we edge towards the tail end of the season.

Watford currently sit one place behind Palace on goal difference with the same points total (40). This should definitely be one to win, the good news being we still have a game in hand over a few reachable teams sitting in the places above us.

There is some good news on the injury front as it's looking very likely that Dean Moxey could return to shore up the left flank, but the bad news is that Mr. Reliable, David Wright, is still unlikely to feature after being missing for some time.

Sean Scannell could return after missing out on Tuesday's trip.

Lee Hills and Joniesta are continuing to do well and will soon be returning to full training. The later's reappearance something that can't come soon enough for the vast majority of Eagles fans.

Watford

Watford manager Sean Dyke has named the same starting XI in four consecutive games and it's expected he'll continue with the same policy.

Watford starting XI from last four games: Loach; Hodson, Mariappa, Doyley, Nosworthy; Eustace, Kacaniklic, Murray, Hogg; Iwelumo, Garner.

Troy Deeney is expected to return after missing the midweek game through injury, whilst Lloyd Doyley is available after successfully appealing a red card he picked up against Leicester City.

Wilf Zaha

The third week in a row that our Wilf has had the honour of being highlighted in this most esteemed of previews - and it's not been for nothing.

The superb goal he scored against Bristol is a perfect example of what South London's prize trickster can do when he sets his mind to it - and fans are drooling at the prospect of seeing more from the player whose stock at CPFC continues to rise.

The slightly less prestigious honour of being called up to the England U21s will surely leave the youngster '#buzzing' for this weekend's fixture against the North London club.

Marl Yeates

Marvin Sordell was easily Watford's most dangerous player (with ten goals to his name in just over half a season) before he left for the *ahem* dizzying heights of playing for Bolton in the Premier League - something one of our most promising youngsters saw fit to snub.

That's not to say Irishman Yeates isn't going to be a danger on Saturday.

The midfielder has provided 10 assists this season - more than any of his team mates - and has also chipped in with three goals.

We'll have to work hard to strangle the player's creativity and make sure he doesn't add to his tally of tap-ons, crosses and through balls come this Saturday.

It Shouldn't be hard with two holding midfielders, but it's Palace - so you never know...

Prediction

I've been a little sceptical about recent results, but I genuinely think we're going to win this one. Watford have won three in the league in 2012, and yes we've failed to take all three points from a single Championship game this year. The thing about form is it rarely lasts forever and Palace are long overdue a win, and a big margin win. Most of us thought that perhaps our wait was over after going two up against Bristol, but that was simply never meant to be. This time I think we'll once again manage to score more than one goal, but this time we'll come away with the spoils...

Palace 2-0 Watford

FYP Podcast: The pod returns! (featuring Steve Parish!)

Hello? Is this thing on? Oh good! The FYP podcast is back! JD and Streety have returned from their trip to South America mending diplomatic relations between England and Argentina, and are back in the studio with James Endeacott and Kevin Day to discuss all things CPFC.

There is plenty to chew over with more than six weeks since the last pod action, where Palace crashed out of the League Cup at the semi-final stage, fought off suitors for Wilf Zaha and Nate Clyne in the transfer window, and have gone on a frustrating run in 2012 that has failed to see a win.

The pod comes just days after the 2-2 draw at Ashton Gate and the boys discuss the lack of goals, and what can be done.

The also talk about Wilf's call up to the England Under 21 set up and policing issues at Selhurst, magnified by the erection (fnar fnar) of the 8ft steel wall during the Brighton game to separate fans.

Meanwhile, they are interjected by snippets from FYP's exclusive chat with Eagles chairman Steve Parish, who adds views to each of the issues above, with a perspective from inside the boardroom.

It's a bumper pod, and longer than usual, but that's only because there was so much to talk about!

And there is even more, but that will have to wait until the FYP Pod extraaa episode which will be available on Monday.

Wilfried Zaha earns call up to England Under-21s

After a superb run of form for Palace this season, young star Wilf Zaha has been called up to the England Under-21 squad for the upcoming Euro 2013 qualifier with Belgium

It comes just a few hours after another dazzling performance for the Eagles, away at Bristol City, where the 19-year-old scored a contender for goal of the season, turning Ryan McGivern inside out before racing clear and smashing it in the top corner.

And it was just the latest in a long line of superb displays Zaha has turned in for Palace this season, which included a MOM performance at Old Trafford in the League Cup where the Eagles dumped Premier League champions Manchester United out at the quarter-final stage.

It means Zaha joins team-mate Nathaniel Clyne as the second Palace player to earn a call-up to Stuart Pearce's squad this campaign.

"Call up for England under 21's. Buzzing!" Zaha tweeted on Wednesday afternoon.

So are we, Wilf, so are we. Congrats lad!

Bristol City 2 Palace 2 - Curse of Ashton Gate strikes again as late equaliser denies Eagles first win of 2012

An injury time goal from Brett Pitman earned Bristol City a 2-2 draw and denied Palace their first win of 2012.

It was the third time in the last five league games at Ashton Gate between the two sides that City have equalised in the last minute, Pitman doing the same in 2010.

And it means the Eagles haven't won a game in 2012, and haven't managed all three points at City since 1980.

It all started so well for Dougie Freedman's men as they burst out of the blocks, Wilf Zaha in particular looking sharp as ever, giving Ryan McGivern all sorts of problems early on.

Zaha's flashed shot was well held by David James before he beat McGivern again (the left-back was on loan at Palace last season remember) but his cross couldn't be converted by a team-mate.

But the pressure paid off as Zaha - in front of the watching England Under 21 manager Stuart Pearce - produced a moment of magic and contender for goal of the season as he spun past McGivern (again), raced forward and curled the ball past James into the top corner.

It was the sort of genius that lead Bolton to bid £8m for his services in January, an offer Palace turned down.

But soon the confidence faded and City came back into it, Albert Adomah looking particularly impressive down the right flank, and his cross was well cleared after giving Johnny Parr some problems.

Palace made it to half time 1-0 up, but not without more pressure from the home side, Adomah again getting into space but finding Speroni with a weak shot.

But against the run of play, Palace doubled their lead on the hour mark. Glenn Murray - who was an early second half substitution for Jermain Easter - was wrestled to the ground by Liam Fontaine in the box and a penalty was awarded. Despite protests from the City players - and a flurry of yellow cards - the decision stood and Darren Ambrose stepped up to smash it home.

It was the first time Palace had scored more than one goal in a league game since Watford back in October.

But it didn't relent the home side's pressure. Pitman pulled a goal back 10 minutes later with a free-kick that snuck under the wall and in.

And it continued right up until injury time, where McGivern fed Pitman who smashed it home from the edge of the area, his second of the game and the second time in two years that he has broken Palace hearts right at the death.

It could have been even worse had a header not been cleared off the Palace line with the last kick of the game.

Eagles boss Dougie Freedman refused to criticise his players after the final whistle and drew special praise for Zaha.

"I thought the lads were outstanding, We were the better side and played some great football to go two goals up. It's not like us to concede as we did in the closing stages, but this is a difficult place to come and I cannot fault the players," he said.

"I thought we looked dangerous all through the game and might have had more goals. The result was a disappointment, but otherwise I couldn't be happier.

"It's a good point coming away from home but we can take away a fantastic performance with us and get back on the training ground and keep working at our game to make sure we take maximum points from games like this when we are in this kind of position.

"We set standards for ourselves and go out to try and win every game and once we get things right we will start climbing the table.

"Wilfried Zaha is an exciting young player who works hard at his game every day and is getting better but at the moment he doesn't quite understand how to finish teams off. He scored a quality goal, but doesn't always come up with an end product. That will improve as he gains more experience."

It leaves Palace in 14th spot and still searching for three points this year.

Palace lineup: Speroni; Clyne, McCarthy, Gardner, Parr; Ambrose (McShane), KG, Jedinak; Zaha, Easter (Murray), Martin (Garvan).

Reise Allasanni signs two and a half year pro contract

Academy youngster Reise Allassani has put pen to paper in a two and a half year deal that will come into effect when the striker reaches his 17th birthday.

The deal offered to the 16-year-old U16 international is the 'biggest ever offer' made to an academy star, reflecting 'how the club feel about Reise and his future at Palace'.

Several Premier League clubs have been chasing the youngster, but in another move by the owners to secure the club's most important assets - our wealth of home grown talent - a deal has been agreed to tie the player to the club for the near future.

Manager Dougie Freedman met the player and his parents before the deal was finalised to affirm his willingness to promote successful young players to the first team.

"The manager met the parents, met the player and he was a big sort of influence on Reise staying here. What we have here and especially even more so since the new manager has come in is that the players are so close to that first team environment. The manager often comes over to see them train, watches games and if the players are good enough there is then an opportunity to train and play in the first team squad where at other clubs that isn't the case," academy manager Gary Issott told the Official Website.

"It is fantastic news for the club. He is a real success story and has been here since the age of eight and we have developed him over the last nine years. He is a local lad who lives Bromley and has represented England at under 16 and Ireland at under 15 level. We are very proud of him and he is someone that we are hoping to go on and do great things for the club.

"Reise had an opportunity to maybe look elsewhere at other clubs and as an under 16 school boy you can do that. We had a number of Premier League clubs that bid for Reise but in the end he has seen the progression path here. With the players that we have produced it is a great opportunity for him to start his professional career."

Allassani is currently away with the England U16 team and is due to play Spain on Wednesday. During his time with the England schoolboys he's won the Victory Shield, memorably scoring a wonder-goal from the edge of the area (that used to be on YouTube but now isn't).

FYP Preview: Bristol City v Palace

Team News

Palace

The Eagles' weekend game against Doncaster was called off due to a frozen pitch so Palace should be coming into this fixture fresh-legged having not played in a game in seven days - a 0-0 draw with Boro.

Dougie's boys have yet to attain all three points from a game in 2012 and there's no time like the present to try and buck that trend.

The good news is that everyone at Palace - apart from little Joniesta, who's still recovering from a broken Fibula but is running again in training - is available for selection.

Bristol City

City will be without midfielder Khalifa Cisse (knee), Louis Carey (calf) and Neil Kilkenny is a doubt (hamstring).

James Wilson and Yannick Bolasie are returning from suspension.

Wilfried Zaha

The boy has a few decent games under his belt in succession now. We all know he's got talent and if he can build on a season that's already seen him progress as a player we could be in for a strong finish.

There's no doubt that, despite criticism from some fans, he's vital to our attacking play - particularly with Jonny Williams in the side.

Note: opposition players on FYP may appear more squashed than they actually are.

Bristol City's second highest scorer this season with five goals under his belt (already equalling his effort last season) is not to be scoffed at.

Yes he's only got five goals, but he is a midfielder and he's gotten himself into more shooting positions than any other Bristol player this season. Watch out!

Dougie Freedman slags off Twitter (and denies Leeds job interest)

Palace boss/legend/excellent wearer of pitch-side tracksuits Dougie Freedman has slammed the social networking site Twitter (and technically all teenagers) after being linked with the vacant Leeds United job.

The 34-year-old played for the United at the end of his playing career and after an impressive start to life in the dugout at Selhurst Park has been linked with every available gaffer's job on the planet (including the Dog & Duck FC in the Croydon Sunday League Division 4. The post went to Big Dave in the end incidentally).

But after denying interest in the job at Elland Road, and let's face it having to be within five miles of Ken Bates, the surly Scot couldn't hide his contempt for Twitter - alarming timing considering the date of February 14th when love is very much in the air.

“I’m not going to comment every time a teenager tweets from his bedroom on Twitter that I might be in line for the Leeds job because that is what I am starting to get," he told the South London Press.

“I’ve got a very important job here. I need to try and finish as high as I can this season and that is what I am concentrating on."

Comments from teenagers on Twitter to the story are expected to go through the roof, and then drop when a new meme of a cat falling off a table is posted on some blog somewhere.

Freedman, meanwhile, will prepare his side for a trip to struggling Bristol City on Valentine's Day evening.
