Every year more than 800 people in the UK and Ireland are paralysed following an injury to their spinal cord. Spinal Research raises money to fund research into clinical treatments as well as vital basic science research. Thanks to such pioneering research, paralysis can now be treated and we stand on the brink of applying therapies that will restore movement and feeling and transform the lives of paralysed people.
Bronia said: "I'm hoping to raise around £2500 - £1700 of which will be going to Spinal Research which will help progress their work. The rest and anymore will go to Jay to help pay for care or anything else he needs."
"I met Jay in December 2010 when we were doing Panto together in High Wycombe. He was part of the Pirates called the Acromaniacs that do a fantastic gymnastic and stunt displays on stage during the show. Not only that, Jay was looking to get onto the stunt register and begin a very promising career in the industry. He was a fantastic gymnast and was constantly training before and in between shows to perfect his somersaults and flips.
"After the season finished he landed his 2nd professional job at Legoland and was really excited to be doing the stunt show. All was going well but when they were rehearsing one day and a trick went wrong. He broke his neck and damaged his spinal cord and was air lifted to hospital where he stayed for a good few months before being moved nearer to home.
"I went to see him, and I have to say to see a friend not even be able to itch his nose is distressing. He is now having physio and is moving into his own bungalow with 24 hour care. He is so positive about everything, even though he's the one in the wheel chair that he has to move with a special controller which he operates with his mouth. It really makes you put things into perspective!
"His family and friends have a saying for him: All Day Everyday Pray For Jay. "
Bronia has been training vigorously since December for the 26.2 mile run and hopes to be ready for the marathon which will take place on the 22nd of April.
"Training is going well. I have days where I find some runs tough but I keep Jay in mind all the time and just think 'He can't do this, so come on Bron get on with it!'. I'm at 8 miles at the moment hoping to get to 10 by the end of the week. I have new running trainers to break in to so that should be fun! I'm probably a little behind with training but once I put my mind to something there's usually no stopping me!"
FYP would like to wish Bronia all the best in her fundraising endeavours and we urge you all to give as much as you can.

FYP Podcast Extra: Kits and bits that didn't make the cut
Consider this a Pod 43 A with some content that didn't make the last cut. In it, the pod team talk about the voting for the new Palace badge, as well as talking kits (it's nearly that time of the season again) and discuss the EPPP, which is in the news again as the powers that be at UEFA decide to get involved. As before, Eagles chairman Steve Parish joins us to add his thoughts on the matters from the boardroom at SE25 as the boys cover all the issues that they missed while away for the last six weeks. You can stream the pod live here. Don't forget to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or tweet your comments to us for the next pod. My Favourite Palace Moment No.5 - When Steve Coppell strippedI was dreading the moment when it came for me to contribute to this series; asking a Palace fan to pick his favourite moment is a bit like asking me my favourite movie or favourite sexual position - there are just too many good ones to choose from and they are all awesome. (That sounded creepy didn't it?)
Monday Matters: In defence of Jermaine EasterOh Monday, such a horrid day. Let FYP help you through it with our Monday Matters features, where we look back at the weekend's action and chew over the fat that is Palace debate. Today, FYP editor James Daly tells us why he likes Easter (Jermaine, not the chocolate-egg-decorate-festival). The above intro is not entirely true; I do like Easter. I love Easter Eggs (Cadburys Cream Egg in case anyone was wondering) and I like the feeling of having a fresh start that the festival brings. For me it signals a new chapter in the year. Oh and Jesus ascended up some stairs and listened to the Rolling Stones or something, I wasn't listening in Sunday School. But it is a time of wiping the slate clean, forgiving and forgetting, moving on and other cliches. And for Palace's Jermaine Easter a fresh start seems to be paying dividends. Now, it's clear that Jamma does not have many supporters amongst the Eagles faithful, and that is understandable. Since arriving in January 2010 he has hardly set the league alight with goals and has flattered to deceive more than he has impressed. And as a result he found first-team starts had to come by, slipping down the pecking order below the likes of Steffen Iversen and later Glenn Murray. But Easter has been offered a reprieve of late by Dougie Freedman and I believe is repaying his manager's faith. Certainly, the Doog must be impressed with Jermaine's efforts as he has picked him over a seemingly fit and ready to go Murray in nearly every game this calendar year. And I for one agree with the Doog. Easter's work ethic has been excellent in the last few games and Saturday's 4-0 win over Watford is an excellent case in point for the sort of things he can offer the team. Admittedly the Eagles came up against a poor Hornets side, who looked a shadow of the side who had won three out of their last four games before the trip to Selhurst Park, and offered a defence that had more holes in it than Swiss cheese. But that doesn't mean the Eagles forwards didn't perform and Easter was central to the action.
His spin down the right from Clyne's pass and pinpoint cross into the six-yard box gave us the first goal of the game as Wilf Zaha prodded home at the back post. He also set up the third goal for Chris Martin with a very neat flick at the near post from Ambrose's cross, flummoxing the Watford keeper and leaving the on-loan Norwich forward with the simplest of tap ins. And he could potentially lay claim to the fourth goal which was flicked goalwards by KG but there was Easter on the line waggling out a foot and forcing the keeper into spilling it into the net. Easter's problem is that he has no obvious strengths; he isn't big enough to be a target man, quick enough to play off the shoulder, or good enough in front of goal to be a fox in the box, and yet he still manages to do all those things throughout the game. And the flashes of skill do appear here and then (think Reading at home last year in the 3-3 draw). What Easter's inclusion does also give the team is a pumped up Murray introduced late on to a tired defence, making the former Brighton man even more of a treat (as shown by his winning a penalty against Bristol City on Tuesday soon after coming on.) So, let's give Easter more of a chance. He isn't grabbing headlines but he is certainly doing his bit for the team. Follow JD on Twitter and catch him talking about Palace on Late Kick-Off South East tonight on BBC1 at 11.05pm. |
Aaaaand we're back already! Yep, the FYP pod team had so much to talk about last week that we have uploaded an EXTRAAAAA podcast with some of the chat that was squeezed out of the last pod.
