Palace fans to undertake sponsored walk around London football clubs
A group of Palace fans are getting ready to undertake a 52-mile round trip of all the London football clubs in a bid to raise money for Royal Marsden and the Pulmonary Hypertension Society.
Over the weekend of June 11 & 12 the Eagles supporters will don their comfy shoes and get walking, starting at Selhurst, going to the proposed new stadium site in Crystal Palace, before heading on to White Hart Lane, via The New Den, The Valley, Upton Park and Brisbane Road.
The next day the route continues to The Emirates, Loftus Road, Craven Cottage and Stamford Bridge before returning to the home of football at SE25.
And any Palace fan is invited to take part. Event organiser Michele Rodger said: "We did one last year – Selhurst to The Withdean (53 miles) – as a result of someone on www.cpfc.org having cancer at the time, so a walk in aid of the Royal Marsden was suggested and eight of us volunteered and took part.
"Despite the aches and blisters, we had a good time, sense of personal achievement - as most had never done anything like this before - made some new friends in each other and raised over £4,000 for the charity. Before it had even finished, we were planning the next one!
A spokesman from Royal Marsden added: "We are delighted to be the beneficiary and it has our approval and support. We'd like to thank the walkers very much for taking the time to support us in this way."
Michele added: "We are also raising money for a second charity this year - PHA - due to the Dad of one of the walkers dying from this. His Mum also participated in the walk last year by driving a support vehicle carrying and topping up our water supplies and the walking wounded!
"The club are opening Glaziers on the evening on June 12 for our return, where there will be drinks, an auction of signed Palace items and a raffle (prize donations welcome) – all fans are welcome to attend. Both Steve Parish and Steve Browett sponsored us last year – with Steve Browett already making a large donation this year."
Last year ex-Eagles star Mark Bright joined the walkers at the start of the day, and plans are afoot to invite other Palace players this year.
There are about 20 walkers so far – if anyone is interested in joining in the walk, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Alternatively – cash donations can be handed in an envelope to the club's main reception marked for Michelle and the club will pass these on.
